El Turpial farm is located in the municipality of Cumbitara, in the village of El Consuelo, Nariño department, at an altitude of 1950 to 2850 masl and covers 75 hectares. Of these, 45 hectares are dedicated to a forest reserve and 25 to pastures.
In 2019, Emerson Narvaez decided to start a specialty coffee production project on the farm and use 5 hectares of land to grow exotic coffee varieties (Geisha, SL28, Laurina, Sidra, Sudan Rume, and Pink Bourbon). He planted about 10,000 coffee trees at an altitude of 2100–2200 masl, built a processing station, and harvested the first crop in 2022.
Process details
After the cherries are picked, they are left in hermetic plastic bags for 50 hours, followed by floating, selection, and depulping. The second stage of fermentation takes place in a dry tapped tank and lasts 36 hours.
