Coffee consumption in Germany remains robust, with nine out of ten adults partaking, according to a recent national consumer survey. The study, which polled 1,100 adults, found that 92% of Germans drink coffee and 68% do so daily. Significantly, the report noted for the first time a marked increase in daily coffee drinkers among consumers under the age of 35, indicating a key demographic shift in one of Europe's largest coffee markets.

The data reveals a high frequency of consumption, with over three in five Germans (62%) drinking at least two to three cups per day, while nearly 30% consume four or more cups daily. Consumption habits vary regionally, with the highest concentration of daily drinkers (73%) found in the eastern federal states. In contrast, the southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg reported the lowest daily consumption rate at 64%.

While traditional filter coffee continues to be the most popular preparation method overall, preferences are changing among younger consumers. For those under 45, milk-based beverages such as cappuccino, Café Crema, and latte macchiato are top choices. The survey also highlighted the importance of the takeaway coffee segment, with four in ten respondents purchasing coffee on the go. Cappuccino and Café Crema lead as the preferred takeaway options, underscoring opportunities for blends suited to espresso-based drinks in the German food service and convenience sectors.
